Jaclyn Tarnoweckyj has always sought out ways to continue learning and improve as a dancer, dance educator, choreographer and adjudicator.
Growing up in Toronto, Ontario, Jaclyn trained both intensively in ballet, as well as in the competitive dance circuit, in addition to attending several recognized training programs including Canada’s National Ballet School and The Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
While known for her Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical and Open choreography, she takes pride in her versatility. Throughout her career she has received extensive training in Ballet, Pas de Duet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Contemporary, Tap and Acrobatics. She had the opportunity to work with many world-renowned choreographers, and has performed and competed throughout Canada and United States.
In addition to her dance education, Jaclyn graduated with honours from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University), and received a BFA degree in Performance Dance. It was during this time that she truly discovered her passion for teaching dance. She has taught and choreographed for numerous competitive dance studios and intensive workshops (teaching all dance genres), and continues to push herself to stay current in her ability to teach at all age levels.
While Jaclyn’s choreography continues to be recognized with numerous awards both regionally and nationally, her students have also continued on their training in many reputable schools and companies across North America, including Juilliard, Canada’s National Ballet School, The Royal Winnipeg, Boston Ballet, Boston Conservatory, Point Park University, TMU, SUNY Purchase, Twyla Tharp, Limon Dance Company, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, and many have continued to pursue successful careers in dance on Broadway.
Jaclyn understands the importance and practice of technical and efficient dance training, while instilling personal discipline with the joy of dance and creativity. With her extensive eye for detail, she uses it to strengthen technique and develop artistic excellence in her students.
As a fully qualified Cecchetti Ballet teacher at the Associate Diploma Level, Jaclyn has been successfully entering students into Cecchetti exams for the past 15 years at all levels, including the pre-professional exams. In the meantime, she is currently working towards her Advanced 2 and her Licentiate level teaching certification.
Jaclyn is happy to be able to share her knowledge to a wide audience as a member of the Professional Adjudicators Alliance, the International Association of Dance Adjudicators and Cecchetti Canada.
She aspires to continue educating young dancers by helping them reach their full potential and fostering a life-long love for dance.
